We read lot of press about celebrities daily because we either try to emulate them or envy them. The sexuality of the celebrities has always provided fodder for gossip that has kept audiences hooked. Guessing a celeb’s sexuality is media’s favorite pastime. The glamour industry has its own share of transgendered celebs.Here’s a list of 12 celebrities who used to be man but underwent surgery to become a woman.
1.Alexis Arquette
Alexis Arquette was born as Robert Arquette. Robert was born in Los Angeles, California on July 28, 1969, and went through a gender transition from male to female. This transition was documented in the film called Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother. This movie debuted at the 2007 Tribeca film festival. Alexis was supported in the transition process by her family, which includes siblings Patricia, Rosanna, Richmond and David Arquette.
2.Carmen Carrera
Carmen Carrera was born as Christopher Roman on April 18, 1985 in New Jersey. Carmen is a model, actress, and American reality television personality. She became famous by appearing on the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race as a male. Soon after, she made a transition from male to female. She is also featured in the work of famous photographer David la Chappele.
3.Isis King
Isis king was born on October 1, 1985 in Annapolis, Maryland. She is a transgender model who found fame on America’s Next Top Model by becoming the first transgender model to appear on the show. She was born biologically male and came out as gay in high school. She began her hormone replacement therapy in 2007, which was part of her transition process from male to female.
4.Amanda Lepore
Amanda Lepore was born as Armand Lepore on December 5, 1967, in New Jersey. Amanda is an American socialite, singer, and model. She has advertised for many companies, including MAC, The Blond’s Swatch, and fashion brand Heatherette. At the age of 19, she underwent gender reassignment surgery in New York.
5.Lana Wachowski
Lana Wachowski was born as Laurence Wachowski on June 21, 1965, in Chicago, USA. She is an American film producer, director, and screenwriter. She reportedly made her transition from male to female in 2008, and in July 2012, she became the first Hollywood director to come out as transgender. She is famous for directing the movie The Matrix, and she has also received the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award.
6.Lea T
Lea T was born as Leandro Medeiros Cerezo in Brazil in 1981 to a famous former Brazilian footballer Toninho Cerezo. She was hired as Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci’s fit model and personal assistant. She has also appeared in Vogue Paris. She underwent her transition from male to female in 2012 in Thailand.
7.Janet Mock
Janet Mock was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 10, 1983. She started her career at People magazine. She was the editor of the magazine for more than 5 years. She came out as a transgender woman in 2011 in a Marie Claire article. She is the author of Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More.
8.Laverne Cox
Laverne Cox was born on May 29 in Alabama. She is an American reality television personality, actress, LGBT advocate, and television producer. She is best known for playing the role of Sophia Burset in the television series Orange is the New Black. She also competed on I Wanna Work for Diddy, making her the first African-American transgender person to make an appearance on a large reality show. She became the first transgender person to have a wax statue in Madame Tussauds on June 26, 2015.
9.Jenna Talackova
Jenna Talackova was born on October 15, 1988, in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is a Canadian model and television personality. She gained media attention in 2012, when she was booted out of the Miss Universe Canadian pageant after she was recognized as transgender. However, she fought back and regained her spot. She has a reality show based on her life called Brave New Girls.
10.Dr.Marci Bowers
Marci Bowers was born as Mark Bowers in California, USA on January 18, 1958. She first attempted transition at the age of 19, but was unsuccessful. Twenty years later, at the age of 39, she completed the procedure. She is not only one of the key inventors behind gender reassignment surgery, but she is also the first transgender medical professional to perform the surgery. She performed Isis King’s surgery. She married her wife when she identified as man and is still married. The couple has three kids.
11.Candis Cayne
Candis Cayne was born as Brendan McDaniel in Maui, Hawaii in 1971. She gained attention in 2007 for becoming the transgender actress to play a recurring transgender character in the popular prime time show Dirty Sexy Money. She began her transition in 1996. She has also appeared in shows like Nip/Tuck, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Necessary Roughness.
12.B.Scott
B. Scott was born as Brandon Scott Sessoms in Virginia on March 21, 1981. She is an American television personality, internet celebrity, and radio show host who rose to stardom with her popular YouTube blogs and website LoveBScott.com. She is also serving as a contributing editor to The Glam Network and an advice columnist for Ebony Magazine.
