Reports: Manchester United submitted two bids for Gareth Bale over $110 million

BaleManchester United manager Louis Van Gaal may have lost Angel Di Maria, but he is reportedly hoping to replace the Argentinian winger immediately and in a big way.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils have submitted a pair of enormous bids for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale in excess of $110 million, both of which have so far been shunned by the La Liga giants.
The two clubs have been linked via rumors all summer, with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea said to be at the top of Real Madrid’s wishlist. With De Gea rumors cooling recently despite Van Gaal admitting he cannot control the wishes of his players, the Dutchman is apparently hoping to counter the moves of his opponents.
Bale moved from Tottenham to Madrid in the summer of 2013, and has been hit or miss at the Bernabeu. But Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez told Spanish publication AS that his sole focus is to help the Welshman continue to improve at the club level.
“Gareth is a key player for us; obviously I can’t talk about offers for our players,” Benitez said. “He’s an important member of the squad. Madrid have a great squad already and as I’ve said before, our plan is to get the best from it.”
At this point, it seems there’s little to this, but with still almost a month left in the transfer window, anything can happen, so we’ll file this under the “watch this space” list for now.
