world first bluetooth padlock goes on sale

Tech-savvy inventors have come up with the ‘world’s first’ Bluetooth padlock, which means no more worrying about lost keys.
The Noke operates like a standard padlock, but instead of having a keyhole, the heavy-duty security device can only be opened over Bluetooth by a mobile phone or by tapping out a Morse Code-esque sequence on the lock itself.

Thanks to the dedicated smartphone app, when the user’s phone is within a few feet, the mechanism will automatically unlock.
The £59.99 device, available exclusively from online retailer Firebox, even has a year-long battery life, meaning valuables can be kept safe for a lengthy period of time.

A spokesperson for the quirky online retailer said: “The clever app makes it easy to manage multiple locks, simply name your locks and create custom settings specific to each one.
"Want to make sure your friends can get in your garage door or borrow your bike?
"Simply add them as users on the app, specify the day, time, location and duration of access to the lock and use the history function to see when and where your Noke was locked or unlocked.”
Crowdfunded on Kickstarter, the clever creation is made from boron-hardened steel, making it incredibly strong and durable, and completely weather-proof
