The movie retained its number one spot with USD24.9 million at the U.S box office, barely beating the poorly received Adam Sandler film “Pixels”, which debuted at number two with USD24.1 million last weekend.
Meanwhile, the “Despicable Me” spin-off “Minions”, slipped down to third place in the U.S., collecting USD22.9 million. The movie has been on an impressive streak as it has thus far grossed a worldwide total of USD760 million against a budget of USD74 million.
“Marvel’s Ant-Man” proves its worth by maintaining its top spot even at Malaysia’s box office. Following behind, is the newly released Chinese fantasy film, “Monster Hunt” which has broken many records in China.
Just within two weeks, the film had grossed over USD205 million in China and USD6 million in four other countries for a worldwide total of USD211 million, making it the highest-grossing Chinese movie of all time.
Moving on, claiming third place in Malaysia is another new release which is based on the 2008 novel of the same name by John Green, “Paper Towns”.
The tiny hero Ant-Man has also managed to remain first in Singapore, while its second and third spots are the opposite compared to Malaysia as “Paper Towns” is placed second and “Monster Hunt” is placed third in Singapore.
Other new releases in Malaysia last weekend include “The Gallows”, “The Strange House”, “Paris Holiday”, “The Vatican Tapes” and “Twenty”.
Whereas in Singapore, other movies that also opened last weekend were “Detective Conan: Sunflowers Of Inferno”, “Irrational Man”, “Bin Roye”, “Southpaw”, “The Vatican Tapes”, “Extraterrestrial” and “Only You”.
