Gwyneth Paltrow joins scrum of superheroes for Captain America: Civil War

These days, Marvel movies are so full of superheroes and stars that it’s almost easier to list who’s not appearing in each film, rather than who is.
Case in point: The upcoming Captain America: Civil War, which stars Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision), William Hurt (Thaddeus Ross), Emily VanCamp (Agent 13), Daniel Bruhl (Baron Zemo), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), and Martin Freeman (Everett Ross).

That is one absurdly talented/crowded ensemble cast, but according to The Wrap, there’s room for at least one more addition to the superhero scrum. The outlet has confirmed that Gwyneth Paltrow will be appearing in the film as well, thought it’s not yet known how extensive her role will be. Paltrow — who has recently been spotted on set — will reprise her role as Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s business partner and love interest from the Iron Man franchise. The character is essentially the organized and sensible yin to Stark’s reckless and eccentric yang. Her character last appeared in Iron Man 3 (2013).
Conspicuously absent from this comprehensive cast list are Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), who are both set to appear in Thor: Ragnarok. The former was originally a part of the film, but directors Anthony and Joe Russo cut him out, feeling that the project was getting a bit overcrowded. That said, not everyone is convinced that the big green guy will be left out of this film entirely.
Captain America: Civil War is set to ring in the Summer movie season when it hits theaters May 6, 2016. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated as information becomes available.
